Such a Powerful Musical: Les Miserables

If any of you know me, you know that I am completely obsessed with some musicals. Recently, I watched the Les Miserables movie, and let me tell you it was phenomenal. Les Mis is a very powerful story that takes place during the French Revolution. It shows how peoples lives were back then, and how they suffered. This can relate to social studies because it is a historical moment. This can also relate to English because in the book we are reading, there are parts of the story that show how people are suffering, and that everyone's lives are not okay. One of the reasons why I love it so much is because it is not a happy story, it is realistic. Many movies take away the truth of the matter in hopes of more people enjoying it. This was a very sad time and this story shows the truth in that.
One of my favorite characters in Les Mis is a woman named Fantine. She lives a life as a single mother working in a factory to provide for her daughter. She sings a song called "I Dreamed a Dream" where she sings about her life without her daughter's father, and how it could have been so much different if he hadn't have left. She never thought things would end up the way they did. This song is so amazing and poweful. Anne Hathaway plays Fantine in the movie, and the link down below is a video of her singing "I Dreamed a Dream." Some people might think that her singing this song is not very good at all because she is crying the whole time and showing a lot of emotion. To me, her showing real emotions makes it all the better.
If you have not seen this movie, I would recommend going to get it as soon as possible. Les Miserables is also a book and a Broadway musical. I have not had the chance to read the book or see the musical, but someday I hope to do so. Our school is doing this musical as the yearly spring play, and I am looking forward to it! I cannot wait!

Newsies: A definite must see!

Whenever you were younger there was always at least one movie or tv show that you could watch over and over. In my case, that was Newsies. Newsies is a musical about a group of newsboys in New York (newsies for short) during the Newsboys Strike of 1899. The story line is phenomenal. I remember singing along to all the songs, trying to dance with the boys, and loving the movie all around!  Newsies was a fantastic part of my childhood memories.
Newsies is now a Broadway musical as well as a movie. I am very excited to go see it in 2015 at The Fox Theater! They are touring all over North America. I would recommend for anyone to go see this musical. This video is a sneak peak of the musical. It is truly amazing.

Wicked Reunion!

Some of you might not know that Kristin Chenoweth was the original Glinda in the phenomenal Broadway musical Wicked. Kristin announced that she would reunite with the original wicked cast. If you did not know, some people in the original cast are: Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, Joel Grey, and Norbert Leo Butz. They were a few of the cast members that opened the show 10 years ago. They performed all over the world for at least a year! Personally, I think bringing them back would be an amazing experience even for one night only.

I saw Wicked in the Fox Theater a few years ago, and it was an amazing experience. The show itself is so entertaining, and the cast were beyond talented. I did not get to see the original cast members perform, but i sure would like to. Even the soundtrack of the original cast blows me away. I cannot imagine what it would be like to hear them in person. The tickets will most likely cost a fortune even if it is the very last row! Seats will be hard to get, but I hope it is possible.

I think that this is a fantastic idea. Let's hope that everyone follows through with it. Would you go and see the show, or is it not a big deal at all to you? Tell me what you think because I most definitely would.

The Lion King Strikes Again, but does it really?

Some of you may have seen "The Lion King" on Broadway with your family or friends, and were hopefully astounded! "The Lion King" is an amazing Broadway show to go see with basically anyone! It is the best family friendly Broadway show out there in my opinion. Even though it might be a little expensive, the show is completely worth it.
Box office figures released that "The Lion King" is now the highest grossing show in Broadway history. "The Phantom of the Opera" used to have this title for ten years, but "The Lion King" took this away from them. I think they are both spectacular, and I could not imagine how "The Lion King" is making more money. "The Phantom of the Opera" is a classic, and it has been on Broadway longer than any other show. How could a show like that make less money than a show that has only been on Broadway for 17 years?
Many people had this same thought, so they looked into it. They found out that tickets for "The Lion King" are much more expensive than tickets for "Phantom". Basically that means that if "Phantom" raised their prices, they would still be on top. "Phantom" and "The Lion King" both have 7 productions worldwide."Phantom" still has more ticket sales and still is the longest running Broadway show.
"The Lion King" might have made more money, but "Phantom" tops it in many other places. In my opinion, "Phantom" is more successful because of their ticket sales and their staying on top for roughly 27 years. What do you think? Is "The Lion King" more successful or is "Phantom" more successful?

The Fabulous Fox Theater
The Fox Theater Atlanta does not only entertain from the wonderful performances, but by the amazing architecture as well. The Fox Theater is a place of entertainment for anyone from zero to one hundred, boy or girl, it does not matter. They will be guaranteed a good time. The architecture of the building alone would be enough for me to visit. Can you imagine how much math was used to build it? Adding phenomenal performances to that just blows my mind.  In the Great Depression this was built. Most people would not think that this would have been built at that point in time in our history. This building was almost demolished in the 1970s, but it was stopped. Years of entertainment, tons of money, places for performances, and many others would have gone down the drain. I think the Fox Theater is an amazing, beautiful, and magical place. We are very lucky to have it here.
